The (Baby) Elephant in the Room

I know you're thinking it. I'm thinking it. The nurse said it. Gwinne said it. A beta as high as mine at 14dpIUI could mean 'more than one'. I've been up and down the Internet looking for others with betas as high/higher than mine. I've found very few. The few I have found were multiples. Not sure if you've noticed, but I'm single. One has always been the goal ("Me and BABY"). More than one has always been a possibility with IUI, but one has always been the goal. Two? Holy crap but I'll manage. More than two???!?!? Can't let my mind even go there!

Of the charts I found online, while some have me just barely squeaking in at the high end of normal singleton, another has me HIGHER than normal for twins.

Of course if recurrent pregnancy loss rears its ugly head, all bets are off.

I haven't lost that upbeat attitude I had Saturday. I swear I haven't. Just putting it out there. I know you're thinking it and I am too. Oh yeah, and the nurse just called with today's beta results. Ready? (I wasn't!)...

1287! Eeek. Testing again on Wednesday. Did I say eeek yet?

  1. Gulp. My betas with LG were high (188 at 13-14dpo; 500+ at 15-16 dpo--I had two IUIs and don't know which worked), but WOW. At least you know it's a rock solid pregnancy so far:)

  2. Had similar numbers...triplets. Hang in there!

  3. Hoping that these initial high numbers equal a really solid 40 weeks of joy, followed by a lifetime of joyous motherhood. As to how many you'll be raising... no guesses or speculations for now. Just hoping for lots of good news.

  4. Looks like the new donor is pretty stellar. ;) I love that you're feeling up beat and showing it. I'm so excited for you. It's got me remembering why I started the journey and that I think I'd like to try again soon.

So, so thrilled for you. May this be the best of your journeys.

  6. That was my first thought, "It must be more than one!" You will manage whatever it is. With betas like those it should be a nice healthy baby!

  7. My betas were about that high as well. I had two in there to start. I panicked. But then I did some research, realized that two were more than doable, and even had advantages given that pregnancy does not come easily for me. So much so that when it started to be clear at about 8 weeks that one of them was not going to make it, I was upset for a time.

So, eek for sure, but single or not, you can handle it all. You are already incredibly strong!

    Woo Hoo!

  11. Daay-yum, girl! I scoured the net too when my 14dpo # was in the 300's and even that was high, comparitively speaking. Most people with a number like that had twins or more. But there was still just the one in my ute. On the other hand, your number is higher and the fact that your number pretty much tripled, rather than doubled, does speak volumes. Also, with IUI there's obviously a greater chance than no intervention and no family history. A fat lot of help I am. One thing is for sure - however many there are, you will be great. Just imagine how exciting it would be to find a couple (or more) in there at your first u/s - that's what I did and my heart warmed right up to the idea. In any case, solid numbers. And this goes without saying by now but good move with the new donor.

  12. I think it's so great :) I'm sure you'll be on pins & needles until your U/S - but I for one cannot wait to hear!! Whatever (number) there may be, I know you'll be great. Hang in there!!

  13. The tripling seems more pertinent than the actual number, I'm thinking. Eek! Wowza! Right there a couple of days behind you! Eeek!!!

  14. Wow. That's a pretty big jump to an already nice healthy number. Hoping it's a sign of really sticky bean(s?)

  15. Congratulations on great numbers, *whatever* the future may hold!! Like the others, I have full faith that you can do it, and I can't wait to find out more!! (My SMC friend Lisa recently found out that she's having twins, and despite the initial panic and hyperventilation (!!), she's getting more and more excited.) Hang in there, keep breathing, and definitely keep us posted!!

  16. FWIW, my first RE liked to see betas that almost tripled (not doubled) in two days as the sign of a solid pregnancy (NOT as the sign of multiples). That was certainly true for me (my m/c's doubled reliably, my pregnancy with my daughter had close-to-tripling numbers). Like I said, FWIW...
